Hoi An, Vietnam
This place was unforgettable.
Honestly, I wouldn't even know where to begin about Vietnam. It might've been the food, the sites, the people, but there's no way to pick just one thing about it that I loved. For starters, there was a group of sixteen of us who went. 16! Imagine that many people sharing a van together (yes, it happened). Despite the large amount of people, we somehow managed to keep it all together. We not only worked superb as a group, but we were able to understand each other and really figure things out, together.
Now for the sites, which were absolutely breath-taking. We started off with a quick tour of Da Nang, a city close by. Here, we were able to grab the essentials and load up for the exciting week ahead of us. We were staying for almost a week, so it was good to have what we needed. The next day, we began our hike. We found this fantastic caves just an hour away, where we got to be close to the waters and even lay on a nearby beach. Later on, we managed to rent vespas for 16 people. Well, we only got 13, as some people wanted to share, but you get the picture. Still, just imagine 13 vespas cruising down the streets together. We were lucky that no one got hurt, although we managed to see an accident happen right before our eyes, and ever since, we each became very cautious about our driving. But that didn't stop some of us, including yours truly, to test out our little bad bikes and race one another when we could.
The views were something else. We rode up the side of a mountain with our fleet of 13. A tad difficult to keep the group together at times, but we luckily managed to meet altogether at several points. Still, it was difficult to think about everyone else when you had such incredible views all around you. Literally, it surrounded us all. The waters, the mountainside, and even the air around you was filled with wonder and mist. A lot of mist.
It drives me mad with awe every time I think about those incredible times. But what I have come to realize is that it wasn't just the country that made it so great, but the people I was with that made the adventure all the more enjoyable.
And that, I could not be more grateful for.
